At the most general level, there are four alternatives for the priomordial principle of organization:a) the original organisms were formed of proteins and did not contain any nucleic acids, b) the original organisms contained nucleic acids or similar molecules but did not contain proteins, c) from the very beginning of biological evolution, there was a division of function between nucleic acids and proteins, and d) the original organisms were based on a completely different principle.
