X.3.3.3 There is evidence suggesting progressive development of the genetic code

Today, most molecular biologists seem to incline to the opinion that, in spite of the mentioned complications, the genetic code and the entire proteosynthetic apparatus, similar to all other biological structures, is the product of a long period of evolution from simple, randomly emerging forms to the complicated present-day form. There is a certain amount of indirect evidence for this hypothesis.
